Canelo and Golovkin fire shots at one another

Earlier this week, Gennady Golovkin’s anger finally bubbled over and he outright accused Canelo of cheating and says that injection marks were visible.

The Mexican 2-weight world champion doesn’t believe in Canelo’s statements that he tested positive for Clenbuterol because of consuming contaminated meat.

“Again with Mexican meat? Come on,” Golovkin said, referring to Alvarez’s attribution of his failed test to his consumption of tainted meat in his native country.

“It’s not Mexican meat;” Golovkin said.

“This is Canelo. This is his team. This is his promotion … Canelo is cheating.”

“They’re using these drugs, and everybody is just trying to pretend it’s not happening.”

“It was pretty obvious when [Alvarez’s] muscles were all [enlarged] … and with the traces of injections, which were visible,” Golovkin said.

Furthermore, Golovkin pointed the finger at the face of Golden Boy Promotions and former 6-weight world champion, Oscar De La Hoya.

“I can talk about Oscar De La Hoya, too. He is also not clean. He’s dirty.”

Canelo has kept very much to himself, but he did direct two comments in the undefeated Kazakh’s direction.

In one message, he calls Golovkin a “little bitch”.

In another, he tells Golovkin – “I’m going to kick your f***ing ass.”

GGG’s trainer, Abel Sanchez also weighed in and discussed what they see as Canelo receiving preferential treatment.

“For us, Canelo gets preferential treatment. To me, I have said it all along. I have said it for a while.”

“He gets preferential treatment not only with the judges back in the (Erislandy) Lara fight, the (Floyd) Mayweather fight and now with this drug thing it is being pushed under the rug like it didn’t happen.”

“It happened so let’s get an investigation going and find out what happened and if he didn’t do nothing and he is clean then he is clean but at least we can get some type of investigation going.”

Lastly, Golovkin has been visibly agitated since the news of Canelo’s positive test was revealed. Fighters, when they are incensed, can sometimes approach the ring with too much emotion. Sanchez, however, believes that anger will fuel Golovkin’s desire to record an emphatic victory.

“I like him pissed off like that. I like him pissed off because maybe that is gonna be the catalyst.”
