Deontay Wilder says don’t be surprised if Anthony Joshua gets knocked out in round one

The recent war of words has been ongoing between the current WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder and unified IBF, IBO, WBA (Super) heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

The brash, out-going champion from Alabama, USA has added yet another soundbite to the growing list. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has sensationally claimed it could all be over inside of one round against Joshua.

“I knock Joshua out and don’t be surprised if it is in the first round. But I definitely knock Joshua out,” Wilder said.

The ongoing sticking point in the negotiations for the unification bout has been the split of the income from the bout, Wilder believes he should be entitled to a 50-50 split, a belief firmly disputed by Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn.

“When it all boils to this beautiful fight happening, they are not going to care about the splits.”

Wilder also shared the focus going into this fight shouldn’t be on splits in the negotiations. Wilder says his goal is to honestly find out who the number one heavyweight in the world.

“On this night, on this day, [in] this moment, they are going to care about who is the best – officially.”

“If they want to use splits, not to make a fight happen, then so be it. It is not like I am asking for more, I’m saying this is a 50-50 fight and that’s how it is.”

“In the rematch, then we can talk about 60-40 splits or whatever. That is more acceptable.”

At the end of the night, they will take away a brilliant fight and they will understand who is the best in the world.

They will have one champion, one name, Deontay Wilder, who will be standing with his hands in the sky,” Wilder concluded.
