Mikey Garcia explains why he wants Errol Spence not old rival, Terence Crawford – “Spence fights and I like that”

4-weight world champion, Mikey Garcia has recently touched on his big plans to claim his fifth divisional world title in the near future.

He has already pinpointed undoubtedly the most ferocious fighter in the division of late, Errol Spence Jr as the man he will target.

Many feel the size factor will be crucial in that matchup. Garcia began his career as a featherweight limit of 126 lbs and Errol Spence, on the other hand, is a massive welterweight who boils himself down to the 147 lbs limit.

Terence Crawford declared his foray into the welterweight division and agreed to a deal that will see ‘Bud’ challenge for the WBO title in the coming months.

Crawford like Garcia is rising up through the ranks and both combatants have a prior history following Crawford outboxing Garcia convincingly in the amateur ranks.

Garcia stated his preference would be to take on Spence because the clash of styles makes for a more fan-friendly matchup. Spence’s fighting style revolves around bringing pressure and heat to his opponent.

“I think against Spence it would be a very good fight.”

“He’s strong, he’s a stand-up fighter. He’s not going to be running, he’s going to make it a good fight.”

“Crawford I think would be running more, using his height and his reach advantages.”

“He wants to make it as easy as possible for him, and that’s the way he has to fight – but that makes it a dull fight sometimes and the fans don’t like that, and I don’t want that,” Garcia told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

“[Crawford is] going to be running around the ring all night and I’m going to be chasing him.”

“I’m going to be trying to cut the ring off of course.”

“If I fight Terence one day, I’m going to be cutting off the ring and try to make it a physical fight.”

“That’s the only chance that I have.”

“He’s going to be running around like he did in the amateurs when he fought me, using his height and reach advantages.”

“It scores points, but it’s not really what you want.”

“Now Spence fights and I like that.”

“I know he’s got the size advantage and the height advantage, but that doesn’t intimidate me.”

“I know he’s going to be in there for a fight;” Garcia concluded.
