Miguel Marriaga (25-2) was no match for one of the greatest boxer’s in the game today.
Vasyl Lomachenko was in control from start to finish against Marriaga. The Ukrainian immediately found his rhythm with the jab and managed to score a knockdown in the 3rd round with a straight left. It became clear that Marriaga could hardly do anything against ‘Hi Tech’, so Lomachenko started the showboating and at one point stood still in the corner. He wanted Marriaga to attack him but the Colombian was hesitant.
Lomachenko landed with everything and Marriaga was fighting only to survive. He turned up the pace as the fight progressed and the speed was just too much for Marriaga. In the final seconds of the 7th round, Lomachenko scored another knockdown and the Colombian got back up but as soon as the round ended, it became clear that there was no reason to continue.
Marriaga’s corner said they were done and the fight was stopped before the start of the 8th round.
This was the first time Marriaga has been stopped in his career. Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KO’s) has now won eight fights in a row and the WBO super featherweight champion just keeps on putting masterful performances one after another.
