Raymond Ford issued a challenge on Monday to Ireland’s latest two-weight world boxing champion Anthony Cacace.
The 37-year-old super featherweight southpaw has come of age of late, beating Joe Cordina, Josh Warrington, and Leigh Wood alone in the last two years, and most recently outclassed Jazza Dickens over 12 rounds to win his latest belt.
But American fighter Ford vows to end Cacace’s run, and take that WBA title off his hands.
Responding to a fan’s post on X, Ford said: “Bring that s*** over here,” indicating his preference would be a title fight in the States, rather than boxing Cacace in Ireland.
“I’m ending that.”
Ford has fought 20 times since turning pro, and scored a knockout win over Otabek Kholmatov for the WBA featherweight championship, and a decision win over Abraham Nova last year in Riyadh, to sandwich his only loss — a split decision to Nick Ball, also in Saudi Arabia.
Raymond Ford One of Many Options For Anthony Cacace
But Ford isn’t the only option for ‘Anto,’ with Cacace’s representative Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions recently indicating their preferences after the boxer’s latest win over Dickens.
“He’s a two-time world champion and it’s unbelievable what he’s done,” said Frank Warren. “He’s pulled himself back together, with great skills, and showed everybody what it’s all about.
“We’re going to get bigger fights for him, here,” Warren noted. “This is his home. Ireland. This is where we’re going to make the fights happen.”
Cacace, too, declared his intentions in the middle of the ring, last weekend. “I want to unify the division,” he said. “I want to have Emmanuel Navarette next.”
