In the latest boxing news today, Floyd ‘Kid’ Austin is seemingly moving on from a fight against Lucas Bahdi to instead put himself forward as an opponent for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who has not boxed since his disputed draw with Lamont Roach Jr., last year.
In a video message he posted on X, Austin — one of Golden Boy Promotions’s most promising fighters for the future — said his prospective fight on April 18 with Bahdi “got canceled.”
He said it was because his opponent’s “body needed six weeks more training.”
Austin then said his team is targeting ‘Tank’ Davis. “If we’re not fighting in the top-10 for the belt, then we’re not looking at anyone else.”
The fight would be a significant one. Davis is coming up to 12 months absent from the ring as he failed to engage Roach in a rematch, moved toward a crossover fight with Jake Paul but the Netflix event was canceled after civil allegations of domestic violence came to light, putting the American on the shelf until he resolved his legal issues.
There has been speculation Davis, though, could soon return to boxing — with a summer showdown against Isaac Cruz, a rematch, just one option.
A second option is now Austin.
“We worked way too hard to get here, and to not be put on the backburner and fight for the world title,” he said. “I’ll make sure I’m ready.
“April 18 is canceled and we will be fighting for that belt whether it’s Tank Davis or Lucas Bahdi.”

Two Future Stars Extent Matchroom Deals
Austin wasn’t the only future star prominently placed in today’s boxing news as Matchroom also sent a statement to Boxing Social regarding contract extensions it had agreed with two of its promising prospects.
George Liddard, a 23-year-old British and Commonwealth middleweight champion, and Giorgio Visioli, a 22-year-old English lightweight champion, signed long-term contract extensions, the promoter told us.
“From being on Anthony Joshua undercards to fight nights in Las Vegas, [Matchroom has] guided my career amazingly,” said Liddard, ahead of a possible fight with Liam Smith, as he, per Hearn, remains a few fights from someone like Carlos Adames. “So, I look forward to many more special nights over the years to come and many huge fights, brought to you live on DAZN.”
For Hearn, the sky is the limit for both boxers. “Both young men undoubtedly have what it takes to go right to the very top and you will see them continue to take the best fights as we steer them towards their dream destination of ruling the world.”
Tommy Fury vs Eddie Hall a Done Deal
And, finally, Misfits Pro has its next headline attraction as it pits Tommy Fury against Eddie Hall in a clear ‘Beauty & The Beast’ bout. The event takes place June 13 at the AO Arena in Manchester, airing worldwide on DAZN.
