Derek Chisora Tells Deontay Wilder That Their Fight ‘Will Not See 12 Rounds’

British heavyweight Derek Chisora has told Deontay Wilder that their upcoming contest this Saturday “will not see 12 rounds.” The veteran fan-favorite stated calmly that he will be brining “war and pain” and vowed to Wilder that he would punch him “everywhere.”

Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) welcomes his American rival to O2 Arena in his native London this Saturday. Although in the twilight of his career, Chisora is in good form with three straight victories against Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin.

“Derek brings pressure, but I bring a power that ends blood lines,” Wilder said at the official press conference today. “Derek is coming to fight, but I’m coming with detonation. And in that ring at the O2 Arena, there will be a fight, and it will end with an explosion.”

Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) heads to London with his career needing a serious kickstart. The 40-year-old has lost four of his last six fights, which include knockout losses to Tyson Fury and Zhilei Zhang.

“Boxing is easy,” Chisora responded in a jovial manner. “Put your hands up and hit the other guy, that’s it. Everybody complicates boxing. It’s easy…Just put your hands on your chin and rush at the other guy and hit him. That’s what I’m going to do.

“I’ve done it for 49 fights, some, I’ve won and some I’ve lost, but I’ve kept bouncing back. This one I won’t be bouncing back. I’ll be getting oDrekut of the ring after and going home. Listen, Deontay Wilder has great power, but I can guarantee you…that I am starting so fast that this fight will not see 12 rounds.”

The heavyweight has been expected to retire following his last outing Wallin, but a dance with Wilder was quickly arranged under the MF Pro banner on DAZN pay-per-view. Chisora is currently ranked in 2nd place for Oleksandr Usyk’s IBF world title. He is also ranked 7th by the WBO title held by Fabio Wardley and is in 13th position for the WBA belt.

“Derek has to be perfect for 12 rounds,” Wilder added. “I only have to be prefect for two seconds.”
