Tim Tszyu’s workmanlike performance saw him easily breeze past Denis Nurja on Sunday, April 5 (local time) with unanimous scores of 100-88 during a middleweight fight in Australia.
The victory, his second in succession following a brutal knockout loss to Sebastian Fundora, aired as a PBC on Prime Video event and further maneuvers the 160-pound debutante toward a clash against popular American prizefighter Errol Spence Jr.
“I think me and Errol Spence would be one helluva fight,” he told Ben Damon on-air following his win.
Spence is yet to fight since his one-sided knockout loss to Terence Crawford in one of the welterweight division’s all-time great thrashings, but has been linked with a comeback this summer.
“It’s a banger.”
“You know how I am — I don’t take a backward step. So if he wants to meet me at the front, bring it on,” he said.
In a direct message to Spence, Tszyu added: “You know what they say, catch the big fish. Let’s go fishing.”
For Tszyu, despite his previous losses to Fundora (twice), and Bakhram Murtazaliev, the Nurja victory doubles down on a winning start with new coach Pedro Diaz. On Sunday, Tszyu dominated early, got cut in the fourth round from a headbutt, but rebounded with a left hook that dropped his opponent.
Victory advances his overall pro record to 27-3-0 (18 KOs).
Earlier in the show, which took place at WIN Entertainment Center in Wollongong, New South Wales, Sam Goodman beat Rodrigo Fabian Ruiz at super bantamweight, Max Reeves edged Francis Waitai at super middleweight, and Charlie Kazzi shared a majority draw with Blair Geraghty at super lightweight.
For PBC, it is now in the middle of a run, having moved on from Fundora vs Keith Thurman, as it now looks ahead to a Cinco de Mayo show with Golden Boy Promotions star Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez. PBC boxer David Benavidez challenges ‘Zurdo’ for his unified cruiserweight titles.
