Regis Prograis has once again reiterated that he’s “fine” heading into his April 11 fight with Conor Benn at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.
The New Orleans boxer had already addressed escalating rumors, which Eddie Hearn even commented on, that he was struggling with injury. But Prograis believes he knows why the speculation started, saying on Netflix it’s “a plot for somebody to get my place.”
It’s unclear how the rumors started, but they gathered credibility when Hearn said: “Regis Prograis shouldn’t even be in the ring because he’s that badly injured.”
Prograis quickly shut that down to suggest somebody might have been trying to stop the fight.
“I am perfectly fine,” he said, elaborating, on Friday. “I’m here to fight, I came to fight.”
He added: “I feel like it’s a plot for somebody to get in my place. That’s why. Since I’ve been getting out here, people have been asking me, ‘You sure? We can get a replacement for you’. They probably have a replacement ready right now.
“But I’m fine and I will be fighting tomorrow. I have no injury. I’m good.”
The Benn vs Prograis fight is the co-main event for a headline bout between main eventers Tyson Fury and Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Fury hasn’t fought since his back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 and hasn’t won a fight since his decision win over Francis Ngannou — a match he had to climb off the canvas just to salvage a victory on points.
Should Fury emerge triumphant in his latest comeback from retirement then it’s likely he’ll take one last swing at a world title run, saying everybody in the heavyweight division will be “hunted down and destroyed.”
