Veteran fighter Regis Prograis has retired from boxing after losing a lopsided 10-round decision to British slugger Conor Benn on Saturday, April 11, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Prograis, per pre-fight rumor, carried injury into the ring for his 150-pound catchweight bout against Benn, fighting valiantly on a sluggish leg, to overcome any training camp issues, as well as an eight-year age gap, to survive the 10-round distance, taking the Brit to the final round, only to lose by a 98-92 score on all three cards.
Though Prograis lost the fight, the conditions he’d have to endure suggest he may have won the night, instead.
But while Benn pockets an estimated $15 million for his one-fight agreement with Zuffa Boxing, likely heading into an extension, and possible bouts against the likes of Ryan Garcia or Shakur Stevenson, Prograis brings an end to a career that has seen him fight as a road warrior, as the Louisianan southpaw, boxed in the south, in New York, and on the West Coast, before fighting repeatedly in Britain, against Josh Taylor, Jack Catterall, and Benn.
His best wins were against Abel Ramos, Terry Flanagan in front of his home fans in New Orleans, and Jose Zepeda.
