Caroline Dubois Reveals Back-up Opponent if Alycia Baumgardner Swerves Fight

‘Sweet’ Caroline Dubois wants all the smoke.

The rising British star is 25 years old, unbeaten in 14 fights, and building an impressive body of work defeating Bo Mi Re Shin, Camilla Panatta, and Terri Harper in successive fights, while showcasing skill.

And even before she retained her WBC lightweight belt, and annexed the WBO and vacant The Ring titles, too, she chased a super-fight against American rival Alycia Baumgardner.

So far, Baumgardner has shied away from the challenge to claim that Dubois is levels below her, even as she fights, and beats, an opponent in Bo Mi Re Shin on Friday whom Caroline had already beaten prior.

Baumgardner is now free of obligations, just like Dubois, but even after her win this week she showed a preference to fight Katie Taylor in the Irish sports legend’s retirement fight this summer, over a bout against Dubois.

And so, if Dubois is unable to lure Baumgardner into the ring anytime soon, it is not to say she wants to take on lesser challenges, as she still seeks out the best fights she can, maneuvering instead to another world champion.

“I don’t want to be involved in any other fight that isn’t a unification or a big fight,” said Dubois, according to Ring Magazine.

The unification Dubois mentions is against the IBF champion Elif Nur Turhan — a 31-year-old fighter from Turkey, a two-weight champion, and a boxer unbeaten in 13 bouts with 8 knockouts to boot.

“Right now I think the most realistic would be Turhan next.”

Nur Turhan only debuted as a pro in 2022 but in the four years since has built an impressive resume, defeating Edith Soledad Matthysse in only her fifth bout, before adding her second world title in 2025 when she posted a fifth-round knockout over Beatriz Ferreira, and defended that strap earlier this year with a split decision over Taylah Gentzen.

“She’s the one that’s available and free, also the most exciting one,” Dubois said.
