Paris Olympic Champion Erislandy Álvarez Headlines WBA Fedelatin Convention Card in Chile

Latin American boxing takes a structured step forward this week as the WBA Fedelatin Convention lands in Santiago, bringing with it a two day slate of regional title bouts designed to spotlight emerging contenders.

Friday’s card is topped by Paris Olympic gold medalist Erislandy Álvarez (6-0, 2 KOs), who faces unbeaten José Núñez (17-0-2, 7 KOs) for the WBA Continental Americas junior welterweight title. Álvarez, a product of Cuba’s accomplished amateur system, continues his transition into the professional ranks with measured progression. Núñez, still unbeaten and with more professional rounds, represents a credible test at this stage.

The co-feature will see Cuban standout Lázaro Álvarez take on Brazil’s Jackson Furtado in a bout scheduled for the WBA Continental Latin America lightweight title. Álvarez, a three time Olympic medalist, remains in the process of adapting his style to the professional format, while Furtado enters with the objective of disrupting that trajectory.

Also on the card, Argentina’s Jonathan Wilson Sánchez meets Cuba’s Yusnier Sorsano Ruiz for the WBA Fedelatin super welterweight title, a matchup that pairs experience against developing momentum.

Action continues Saturday at Sala Omnium, where several bouts carry implications across multiple divisions. Unbeaten prospect Josué Agüero faces Ángel Daniel García for the WBA Gold super featherweight title, a measured step up in competition for Agüero.

Women’s boxing features prominently as Argentina’s Aldana Florencia López takes on Mexico’s former titleholder Montserrat Alarcón for the WBA International light minimumweight belt, matching a rising contender against an established name.

On the undercard, Chile’s Andrés Campos meets Ángel Geovanny Meza for the WBA Fedelatin super flyweight title, while Argentina’s Joel Agustín Contreras faces Ángel Alvarado Soto for a Fedelatin flyweight belt. The schedule also includes an international pairing, as Italy’s Pierluigi Ruhe meets Malaysia’s Mohd Azahar for the WBA Gold super welterweight title.

With multiple regional titles at stake, the Santiago event serves as a practical checkpoint for fighters looking to move into broader contention. Under the framework of the World Boxing Association, the outcomes this weekend will help define the next tier of contenders across several weight classes.
