Shakur Stevenson Reacts to Devin Haney Fight Rumor

Shakur Stevenson pumped the brakes on a speculated fight between himself and fellow American fighter, Devin Haney.

One of the most gifted fighters in the entire sport, Stevenson stormed toward the top of the pound-for-pound rankings in the last year alone thanks to his back-to-back wins over William Zepeda in a WBC lightweight world title bout, and then Teofimo Lopez for the WBO super lightweight belt.

Haney, meanwhile, is also, by consensus, considered a pound-for-pound fighter for his achievements across multiple weight classes, and recent wins over Jose Ramirez and Brian Norman Jr.

It was, perhaps, no surprise to see them linked with one another.

But there’s just one problem.

The rumor, per ‘Kur, is cap.

“I know fans like to get excited and they could play with y’all heads and manipulate y’all easily, but that rumor is cap — for the second time,” the 28-year-old southpaw recently said on X.

The rumor seemed to escalate on Monday when boxing insider Mike Coppinger reported on DAZN that Haney and Stevenson had engaged in “preliminary talks.”

But when speaking to his 300,000 followers, Stevenson basically said those talks have not yet involved him.

“I haven’t heard one word about that,” he said. “[I don’t know] what they are trying to cover up or disguise but for me and my team we haven’t heard s***.”

Stevenson has elsewhere been linked to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in a long-running super-fight, and Conor Benn, a British slugger who, earlier this year, swapped Matchroom for Zuffa Boxing.

If Stevenson vs Haney didn’t happen, Devin could reignite Rolando Romero discussions, or fight a Ryan Garcia rematch, among others.
