Terence Crawford on Jaron Ennis: “He Can’t Even Tie My Shoes!”

Terence Crawford has fired back at critics who accuse him of avoiding Jaron Ennis. The former three-time undisputed champion did not hold back. Instead, he delivered a blunt and cutting response.

In reply to a fan’s claim, Crawford dismissed Ennis outright. “He can’t even tie my shoes!” he said. The remark quickly spread across boxing circles. It also reignited debate about whether a fight between them should have happened.

Crawford doubled down on his stance. He argued that fans misunderstood the situation from the start. “That’s crazy how y’all play like y’all like him but wanted me to end his career before it started,” Crawford said. He added that such an outcome was inevitable if they had fought.

At the time, Ennis stood as one of the sport’s brightest prospects. He held the number one contender spot for Crawford’s WBO welterweight title. In addition, he ranked highly with other sanctioning bodies. Despite that position, Ennis chose a different path. He pursued the IBF route rather than challenge Crawford directly.

Meanwhile, Crawford continued his dominant run. He defeated Errol Spence Jr. to become the undisputed welterweight champion. That victory cemented his legacy in the division. Soon after, the IBF ordered him to defend against Ennis. However, Crawford opted for a new challenge.

He moved up in weight instead of facing Ennis. In his next bout, he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA junior middleweight title. That decision shifted his career in a bold direction. It also left the Ennis matchup unresolved.

Just over a year later, Crawford achieved something even more remarkable. He moved up again and faced Canelo Alvarez. In a stunning performance, Crawford dominated and claimed the undisputed super middleweight championship. The victory shocked many observers and added another chapter to his career.

It turned out to be the final chapter.

Terence Crawford stepped away from the sport at the very top of it. His retirement ended any immediate chance of a showdown with Ennis. Even so, fans continued to speculate.

However, Crawford shut that door firmly. He dismissed any talk of returning to face Ennis, or anyone.
