Christian Mbilli will announce his “arrival” when he fights Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez later in September on the weekend closest to Mexican Independence Day weekend.
A four-weight champion, Canelo was a staple on pound-for-pound lists for his accolades from super welterweight to light heavyweight, defeating the likes of Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Gennadiy Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, and Caleb Plant along the way.
Mbilli, meanwhile, has come-of-age in the last couple fights after defeating Sergiy Derevyanchenko by decision, Maciej Sulecki by knockout in the first round, and then shared a draw with Lester Martinez.
And it’s Mbilli, according to his promoter Camille Estephan of Eye of the Tiger, who could show the world what he’s capable of if and when he finally gets into the ring with Canelo.
“Let me tell you how this goes down,” he said Thursday on X.
“A lot of claims that Mbilli is the perfect style for Canelo [but] Christian is coming in violent and relentless.”

“This is not a showcase,” he said. “This is the arrival!”
The pair are linked with a fight in September for the WBC championship at super middleweight. The face-off, per reports, will take place in Egypt during the Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven fight week.
