Jaime Munguia Targets Hamzah Sheeraz Super Middleweight Unification Fight on Canelo Card

One week on from the most meaningful victory of his career, a 12-round decision win over Armando Resendiz, Jaime Munguia is already planning what’s next.

With back-to-back wins since a knockout loss to Bruno Surace, one of the more shocking results of 2024, Munguia is back, and could feasibly command many of the fights he covets most considering how the fanbase he’s developed and how integral he is to DAZN subscriptions.

Typically, DAZN — Boxing Social understands — likes to put Munguia events the month or two after Canelo’s, so the streaming service gets the benefit of retained custom from crossover Mexican interest.

However, the next event might be different.

Munguia wants to fight on the Canelo-Mbilli card in September.

“It is definitely an event that I want to be a part of,” he told The Ring. “There have been some talks, and we are waiting to see what happens.”

He even has an opponent in mind — Hamzah Sheeraz.

“I’m ready to be in the biggest fights, and I’m definitely open to Sheeraz,” said Munguia. “He’s a great fighter.”

An unbeaten fighter after 23 bouts, Sheeraz fights Alem Begic on May 23 on the Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven undercard. Previously, he’d beaten Edgar Berlanga, and shared a draw with Carlos Adames.

“Let’s see what happens with his fight later this month [in the Begic bout],” Munguia said.

“There are a lot of big names in the division, like Sheeraz, Mbilli, Osleys Iglesias, a complicated southpaw who’s tall, and other guys who are really important.

“The division is getting interesting, and there are a lot of fights to make,” he finished.
