Even entering just his fifth professional fight, Keon Davis says he has no interest in taking easy fights.
The unbeaten Norfolk prospect, also known as “Juice Man,” returns May 16 at Scope Arena alongside brothers Keyshawn Davis and Kelvin Davis as DB3 continues building itself into one of boxing’s most visible family brands. But while the spotlight around the Davis brothers continues growing, so does the scrutiny.
Ahead of fight night, Keon spoke with Boxing Social about intentionally choosing tougher opposition early in his career rather than padding his record.
“Ain’t no cherry picking,” Davis said. “My manager Jay Prince sent me two guys and one was a cab driver and the other one was the guy I chose. I chose the toughest fight.”
Davis said the upcoming bout will likely be the toughest test of his young career, especially considering his opponent has already gone 10 rounds twice while Keon himself is only entering his fifth professional appearance.
Still, the 23-year-old welcomes the challenge.
“I just wanna prove myself,” Davis said. “I only have four fights. This gonna be my fifth fight.”
The Norfolk card is another major moment for DB3, the Davis brothers’ expanding boxing initiative that shares the love for boxing to their community. Through the DB3 Boxing program, the brothers have promoted youth boxing and mentorship programs aimed at supporting at-risk youth in Norfolk while hosting community events inspired by their own rise in the sport.
Keon acknowledged the pressure that comes with fighting in front of hometown fans but said it has also helped sharpen him mentally. His professional debut in Norfolk came in front of roughly 7,000 fans, a moment he admitted left him nervous.
“My first time I was hella nervous,” Davis said. “This fight I’mma be nervous for sure cause it’s gonna be my toughest opponent, but I care.”
Davis added that fans should expect a more complete performance this time around as he prepares for an opponent who will bring constant pressure.
“This gonna be one of my toughest opponents,” Davis said. “Y’all gonna see a lot of output from me this fight.”
The event also arrives under lingering controversy surrounding the Davis brothers. Last year, following Nahir Albright’s upset win over Kelvin Davis, both Keyshawn and Keon were accused of confronting Albright backstage in an altercation that later circulated online. Albright alleged he was “jumped” after the fight, while Kelvin later apologized publicly for the incident but denied anyone had been jumped.
For now, the focus shifts back to the ring and continuing the family’s momentum in Norfolk.
Keon, who says NBA YoungBoy is the artist that gets him ready for battle in camp, is hoping fans tune in early before the main event.
“If y’all wanna see a lot from the Juice Man, tune into this fight,” Davis said.
