It has been more than three years since Kell Brook last threw a punch that mattered — the six-round demolition of old rival Amir Khan in February 2022. Now, speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, the former IBF welterweight champion has confirmed the comeback fans have long whispered about, and dropped a heavy hint that Chris Eubank Jr could be the man across the ring.
“There’s some massive news about to drop. Yeah, I’m coming back,” Brook said. “Back in the professional ring. Boxing Board of Control. Me in there again.” The 40-year-old says the fight is nearly finalised and will happen before the end of 2026.

Brook wouldn’t reveal his opponent, but he left the door wide open. He plans to campaign around middleweight or super-middleweight, and when the interviewer floated Eubank Jr, the Sheffield man didn’t knock it back. “Who knows, brother? Who knows?” he offered, before conceding: “It could be.” An announcement, he promised, is coming soon.
The pair have circled one another for years, most notably after Eubank’s 2023 rematch win over Liam Smith. A Brook-Eubank fight would be sold almost entirely on nostalgia — a domestic grudge match that would have meant far more a decade ago than it does today.
The Commercial Question Hanging Over It
That inactivity is the sticking point. Brook has been a part-time fighter since challenging Gennadiy Golovkin at middleweight in September 2016, a bout he took after talks for Golovkin to face Eubank fell through. He suffered a fractured orbital bone in that fifth-round stoppage defeat, then a second fractured orbital in an 11th-round loss to Errol Spence Jr. Only a handful of appearances followed, including a four-round loss to Terence Crawford in 2020 before the Khan farewell.
It remains to be seen whether Turki Alalshikh would bankroll the fight. Financing Eubank’s clashes with Conor Benn made sense — Benn is younger and still a major British draw. A 40-year-old emerging from another long layoff is a very different proposition.
For now, it is a tease rather than a done deal — no contract, no confirmed opponent, just Brook promising “massive news” and refusing to rule out the name everyone wants to hear.
