Adrien Broner has revealed the reason why he felt he came up short and suffered a defeat following his fight with Blair Cobbs last night.
The two men went head to head at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, competing on an event put together by legendary promoter Don King.
Cobbs dominated the majority of the action, knocking Broner down in the second round, and also managing to knock a tooth out of Broner’s mouth in the process.
Despite the knockdown, the fight went the 10-round distance, with the judges scoring it 97-92, 96-93 and 96-93 for Cobbs, handing Broner the fifth defeat of his professional career.
It is a major setback for the multi-weight world champion, but Broner has taken to social media to reveal that he was dealing with injuries heading into the bout.
“Elbow fractured, shoulder torn, but I fought through it.”
As for Cobbs, the win sees him move to 17-1-1 and could lead to another big fight next, and he was thrilled to come out on top when discussing the victory during his post-fight interview.
“On my vision board is very few things, but one of the main things on my vision board is this fight. ‘Blair The Flair versus Adrien Broner.’
“As the fight went on, I’m still working my jab. Working my high-low, catching him with shots he didn’t see coming. He survived a lot of big blows after getting knocked down. He has a tremendous chin.”
Cobbs also revealed his frustrations with Ryan Garcia due to his support for Broner ahead of the bout, with Garcia continuing to go through his own troubles following his failed drugs test.
“I saw something on Instagram. Ryan Garcia was rooting for ‘AB.’ That was hurtful because I thought we were boys. But get your girl out of DMs.
“It’s my time, it’s Blair ‘The Flair’ Cobbs. The most exciting man in boxing and the People’s Champion. Woo!”
Elsewhere on the Broner vs. Cobbs card, Michael Hunter moved a step closer to a potential future shot at the world heavyweight title as he earned a unanimous decision win over Cassius Chaney.
