Adrien Broner has revealed whether or not he believes Ryan Garcia quit in his high profile fight with Gervonta Davis earlier this year.
Davis stopped Garcia in the seventh round at the T-Mobile Arena, with a left hand to the body bringing the biggest fight of the year thus far to a close.
Many observers accused Garcia of quitting in the aftermath of the contest, mainly due to the fact he seemed to rise to his feet as soon as referee Thomas Taylor waved the contest off.
However, in a recent interview with FightHype, four weight world champion Broner admitted he believes there was nothing ‘King Ryan’ could have done, such was the devastating nature of Davis’ shot.
“That was a perfectly placed shot and I know his body shut down. He hit him right on the mark, and when you hear him explain how his body shut down, there was nothing he could do.”
“When you saw the hurt on his face, you knew he wasn’t going to get up.”
Following the fight, Garcia confirmed he will move back up in weight to super lighweight, the division he had been campaigning at before the Las Vegas showdown with ‘Tank.’
He also split with trainer Joe Goossen in favour of the highly-rated Derrick James.
The 24-year-old has been linked to a shot at the WBA champion at 140lbs, Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, who controversially picked up the strap with a stoppage win over Ismael Barroso last month.
Fights with the likes of Regis Prograis, Josh Taylor and even Devin Haney have also all been mentioned, with many expecting Haney to move up in weight following his successful world title defence against Vasiliy Lomachenko.
