Brazilian UFC star Alex Pereira recently opened up on his relationship with Ilia Topuria ahead of their White House visit. Both fighters shared a picture of themselves heading for the visit in a private jet. However, Pereira’s recent disclosure sheds more light on the situation and his relationship with the Spaniard.
Both men have significant roles in the upcoming UFC White House fight, which takes place on President Trump’s 80th birthday. While Topuria headlines the event against Justin Gaethje, Pereira faces Cyril Gane in the co-main event on the historic night. The ceremony, also dubbed UFC Freedom 250, will celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. Here’s more about Pereira’s latest revelation.
Alex Pereira sheds light on the relationship with Topuria
In an interview with Mike Bohn, senior MMA reporter for USA Today, Pereira explains the story behind the viral footage. He disclosed that the private jet in their pre-White House image belongs to Topuria. The Brazilian went on to praise Topuria in positive terms, further suggesting that both fighters are on great terms.
“It was very good to have him around. He gave us a ride on his jet to the White House.”
Both fighters recently trained in the same gym, giving them a closer look at each other ahead of fight night. Meanwhile, Topuria stepped in after heavyweight rising star Josh Hokit targeted Pereira during the press conference. Hokit used derogatory words against Pereira’s mum and nearly created a scene by infuriating attendant fighters at the presser.
Thanks to the timely intervention of security operatives, Pereira may have exchanged blows and kicks with Hokit. Fortunately for the event’s reputation and sanity, security attendees at the event escorted Pereira out of the ceremony. Beyond the events leading up to the altercation, Topuria’s defense of Pereira showed the massive respect between both champions. Josh Hokit will face Derrick Lewis in a heavyweight clash at the event.
