Alycia Baumgardner was cleared to fight by the WBC back in January after she tested positive for Mesterolone, and now the undisputed super-featherweight champion is poised to return to the ring, for a fifth defence of her WBC crown.
Baumgardner avenged the lone blemish on her 15-1 record when she defeated Christina Linardatou last year, but the win was tainted by the aftermath, where an anabolic steroid (Mesterolone) was found to be in her system.
Four months later, ‘The Bomb’ released a statement defending her reputation and claiming than an independent test has proven that any adverse analytical finding could not have been ingested intentionally, pleading her innocence.
The WBC appeared the agree with the American, seemingly denying any possible wrongdoing and they have now ordered a fight between she and women’s boxing legend Delfine Persoon (48-3), with purse bids set for Friday.
“The WBC will hold an important purse bid on Friday in Mexico City at 1:00 PM, for the fight between Alycia Baumgardner and Delfine Persoon.
The WBC super featherweight champion, from USA, Alycia Baumgardner, will face Belgian Delfine Persoon.
Alycia has a record of 15 wins and only one loss, while Delfine has 59 wins and three losses.
For this fight, one of the most innovative rules will apply and that is undoubtedly an important incentive for our boxers, the 10% bonus for the winner. The sum is divided 90% for both fighters and 10% is left to be a bonus for the winner.”
Still, Baumgardner is unable to fight until July 12th 2024, unless her WBC probation is lifted in the coming days.
