American heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson has been making big moves in the last 12 months and his confidence is now proving as impressive as his in-ring performances.
Speaking in the latest episode of Top Rank’s Relentless, the Toledo native and highly-rated contender rates himself as a badman.
“I’m willing to go above and beyond, I’m willing to break myself down to build myself back up.
I know what I’m capable of. I’m probably one of the baddest people to ever lace up the gloves.”
It’s a bold claim and a title that is more usually associated with ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson who was feared both in and out of the ring for his all-out aggression.
So far, the 23 year-old, ‘Real Big Baby’, has replicated Tyson’s early career form and swept aside all comers with 14 KOs in 14 fights to date, often within the first couple of rounds.
Given his fast hands and genuine power it’s understandable why Anderson believes he can stop anyone in his path, though he has admitted that he thinks one British fighter might take him the distance.
Next up for Anderson is his first headline bout against former Anthony Joshua foe Charles Martin on July 1.
‘The Prince’ is a southpaw and one-time IBF Heavyweight World Champion who has stepped in as a late replacement opponent. After getting knocked out by Luis Ortiz in January last year, he came back with a win against Devin Vargas in September.
It’s Anderson’s latest outing after sweeping aside George Arias back in April and chopping down Jerry Forrest in December 2022 so he will be looking to continue his unblemished run of knockouts.
As Anderson outlined recently, however, he sees stepping into the ring as just another day of paid work.
