Amir Khan advises Anthony Joshua to head to America

Despite taking the opposite approach recently, abandoning his platform in the U.S and returning to his homeland to ink a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing outfit.

In an exclusive with Sky Sports, Khan shared his belief that the undefeated powerhouse should be looking to capitalize on his popularity by making the most out of the American market and American television.

“When you fight in America, you become that global star, and that’s what I did,” Khan said.

“People around the world now, wherever I go, they recognize me because of U.S. television, how they promote you.”

Khan also shared his view that the heavyweight division needs to have its major fights take place on American soil. ‘King Khan’ claims that it is in line with boxing’s rich history.

One thing about the heavyweight division that AJ should definitely watch is it’s always been big in America.

“With Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield. Why not fight in a country where heavyweight boxing is big?”

“If he wants to make a big name, he might want to fight there first.”

“He will build his name up,” Khan said.

“He will get a good knockout against some up-and-coming fighter.”

Then he will be ready, because people will see him live on TV and live in America.

“They will be like, ‘This fight needs to happen now.”

The brash, outgoing WBC world heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder has been earmarked for a future unification clash. Provided they both successfully come through their upcoming fights.

On the topic of that clash which could wind up being for all the marbles in the heavyweight division, Khan says that is the mega-fight that must take place in America for maximum global exposure.
