Former unified welterweight world champion, Amir Khan, is enjoying the sport from ringside since hanging up the gloves earlier this year.
The man from Bolton, who achieved so much for British boxing, is looking at the scene from the outside in – and there’s one man he’s appreciating above all others.
Khan told IFL TV that he believes current WBC Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury, is the best fighter on the planet.
“Respect to Fury. Being the heavyweight champion, the best fighter on the planet. Pound for pound.”
Fury’s just a level above everyone. Fury’s different, man. You can’t really put any other heavyweight in Britain on the same page as Tyson Fury … There’s no way around it. We have to admit that Tyson Fury is the best and would beat any heavyweight out there.”
“He fought Deontay Wilder when no one wanted to fight him. No one. He was blasting out everyone and my man goes there and beats him. And goes to American and beats him there. I mean come on give the guy credit. The guy is number one. There’s no one touching him.”
As well as praising his skills, Khan says that Fury carries himself like a champion, claiming his heart is in the right place compared to some other heavyweight that he thinks are ‘clowns.’
Although already invincible and untouchable according in the eyes of Khan, the man from Morecambe is heading for a fight that would allow him to cement that claim further still.
The negotiations between his camp and Oleksandr Usyk’s are said to be going well, with an undisputed fight between the two heavyweight champions due to be announced before the turn of the year.
Should Fury go into the bout and win, he’d come out the other side the division’s first undisputed champ of the four-belt era, and the first man to hold all available titles since Lennox Lewis.
