Promoter Eddie Hearn has announced that terms have been agreed for WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade’s mandatory defence against No.1 contender Liam Williams.
The bout will take place in April in the US, live on DAZN, giving Matchroom fighter Andrade (29-0, 18 KOs) home advantage in what looks like a testing encounter on paper.
Welshman Williams (23-2-1, 18 KOs) will no doubt look forward to showcasing his rapid improvement on a grander stage and, most importantly, returning home with a world title.
“Pleased to announce terms have been agreed for @BooBooAndrade to face @LiamWilliamsKO for the @WorldBoxingOrg world title in April in the USA – full details coming soon,” tweeted Hearn on Wednesday afternoon.
“There you have it guys.. April in [the] USA is where the takeover begins!” added Williams.
The mandatory bout was scheduled to go to purse bids at 4pm today, but an agreement was reached in time.
Meanwhile, also at 160lbs, Queensberry Promotions have won the purse bid for the middleweight title clash between British champion Denzel Bentley (Queensberry) and Commonwealth king Felix Cash (Matchroom Boxing).
