Former two-division world champion, Andre Ward has made his prediction ahead of the proposed all-American clash, between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.
Ward held unified world titles at both super-middleweight and light-heavyweight before retiring with an undefeated record of 32-0, in 2017.
Since then, the ‘Son of God’ has been inducted into the 2021 International Boxing Hall of Fame and has become a regular boxing pundit on ESPN, as well as appearing in the popular ‘Creed’ movie franchise.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Ward said he couldn’t see past Davis for the win.
“You have got to favour Tank going into this fight, period.”
Ward did however praise Garcia’s power and speed.
But it is not a fight where either man can come in and get a guaranteed win. You know, Ryan [Garcia] has power, he has speed and I think it is a great fight and it’s going to be worth the pay-per-view buy and the price of admission, for sure.”
Although there has been no official announcement, the planned date for the fight is April 15th, although as talks continue there is a chance that the schedule could be pushed back. To add more issues to negotiations, ‘Tank’ was spotted in a wheelchair at the Superbowl at the weekend, as rumours of an ankle injury gained traction.
Since the video was leaked, Ryan Garcia responded has responded, seeming clear that the fight is going ahead. Davis has also reassured fans, showing he is not injured, by purposefully dancing and rolling his ankles whilst showing no discomfort.
Fans will be hoping this isn’t yet another one of boxing’s big matchups that fails to materialise.
