Andre Ward completed the tall task of hanging up the gloves with zero losses on his record – and, if he chooses to return and star on the crossover scene, it’s safe to say he’s confident of keeping it that way.
The California-born Hall of Famer is a two-weight world champion with wins over the likes of Sergey Kovalev, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler and Chad Dawson.
Known for his effective technique and defence, Ward frustrated opponents and provided little opportunity for them to gain momentum.
One man who thinks he could get the upper hand is Idris Virgo, a 12-0 pro who has most recently made the switch to the crossover scene via Misfits Boxing.
He took to X to target Ward.
“One fighter I’d love to fight on Misfits Boxing would be Andre Ward.”
“I wish I was joking. Seen a few of your fights and I see so many ways to beat you. But it will be best if you stay retired wouldn’t want to ruin your legacy.”
Not only did fans respond saying the call out was ‘laughable’, but Ward himself took the time to have a look at Virgo’s work and offer his own critique.
“Few things. Let me teach. You got fights on YouTube too. Too muscle bound. You throw every punch hard. You fall over your feet when you shoot your right hand and will get countered. Your conditioning is bad. One of your opponents had 208 loses. Enjoy ya day young fella.”

The 39-year-old isn’t likely to be drawn back into the ring anytime soon, although he has admitted that walking away from the sport has been ‘harder than he thought.’
