As June 1st edges closer, the rumour mill is in full swing for the upcoming Matchroom versus Queensberry card, and following the unveiling of the weight-classes for the fights, a date has been confirmed for the announcement of which fighters will appear on the bill.
Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren’s rivalry has been as fierce as any fighters’ during recent years, but since the involvement of Saudi Arabian catalyst Turki Alalshikh, the pair have learnt to get along and work together to deliver some of boxing’s greatest fights.
In spite of their newfound friendship, or tolerance, Alalshikh birthed an idea for five Matchroom fighters to be pitted up against five Queensberry fighters in a one-of-a-kind show, but in a shocking turn of events, it was revealed that their battle would take place as the undercard of the historic contest between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
Earlier this week, the weight-classes for the evening were confirmed and already there are whispers of which fighters are set to appear on the bill, but Frank Warren announced to talkSPORT that the card will be revealed in full on Monday April 15th in London.
“Frank Warren has revealed that the Queensberry-Matchroom 5 vs 5 fighters announcement press conference is scheduled for Monday, April 15th in London. [@talkSPORT].”
Speculators believe that there will be no surprises to the card, although there could well be a curve ball thrown into the mix, other than the already shocking inclusions of Zhilei Zhang versus Deontay Wilder, with the latter being brought in as a ringer for Matchroom, as well as a proposed IBF heavyweight title affair between Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois.
