Footage has resurfaced of Anthony Joshua and Joe Joyce trading blows in sparring – and it’s not great viewing for ‘The Juggernaut.’
With both considered amongst the best heavyweights on the planet not to currently hold a world title, there have been calls for the two Brits to lock horns this summer.
Although Joyce has opened up a marginal favourite with the bookmakers for a potential bout with ‘AJ,’ the former unified world champion would surely fancy his chances, based off the sparring video obtained by FightHype.
Joshua appears to be countering the slower Joyce with relative ease in the footage, though the caveat should be added that it does look to have been edited.
Both were members of the Team GB set up as amateurs, and will have no doubt sparred countless rounds together over the years.
The idea that Joyce would ever be a betting favourite over Joshua was unthinkable at one stage, however the public perception of both men has done a complete 180 over the past couple of years.
Joyce, once regarded as a plodder who lacked the dynamism to trouble elite heavyweights, is now considered a legitimate threat to anyone in the division following his outstanding stoppage win over former world champion Joseph Parker last September.
Former king of the division Joshua, meanwhile, is thought to be a fighter on the decline who looks hesitant to let his shots go due to fear of what could come back at him.
Though he won a wide unanimous decision victory over Jermaine Franklin in his comeback fight this past weekend, many observers were unimpressed by Joshua’s performance and inability to stop the American.
