Since Anthony Joshua suffered that brutal knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding who he will fight next. However, his promoter Eddie Hearn has now confirmed key plans for his next bout.
Instantaneously after the fight, Hearn suggested that as Joshua has done many times, he would look to take the rematch straight away.
However, unfortunately for ‘AJ’ he picked up an injury, which has resulted in the immediate rematch not happening.
Joshua has had a tremendous career, nevertheless he is now 35-years-old, and time is running out for an opportunity to become a world champion for an elusive third time.
The Fury fight will always be talked about, but this is still no guarantee, and will the rematch between the 6’9 Brit and Usyk coming up on December 21st, there is always the potential that a trilogy between the pairing may happen – something Fury has already said he wants.
Fan-favourite and huge admirer of Joshua, Tony Bellew has talked up another rematch between AJ and Dillian Whyte.
Nevertheless, speaking to Ariel Helwani and Ade Oladipo on DAZN, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed what the plans are for his next fight.
“It could be the Dubois rematch but it won’t be on February 22nd.”
”I think we have to see how December 21st unfolds (Usyk-Fury II) and then make a decision after that.”
”Expect to see AJ in a ring next May or June.”
Hearn has revealed that Joshua will wait for the result of the Usyk-Fury rematch and most likely be in a ring come May or June 2025.
Moreover, he has not dismissed the Dubois rematch next, but this would not be Dubois’ next fight.
Therefore, it looks like no matter the result Joshua may be waiting to have a fight with Fury.
Whilst this is not the same fight as it could have been a few years ago, it is still a tremendous British heavyweight fight, and one that would go down in history if it were to finally take place.
