Anthony Joshua Says He Should Be WBC Champion After Knocking Out Francis Ngannou

Anthony Joshua has declared that he should be the WBC heavyweight champion after his destructive knockout victory over Francis Ngannou on Friday.

‘AJ’ earned a vicious second round stoppage over Ngannou, knocking down the former UFC titleholder three times on his way to the dominant win.

It was a contrasting performance from Ngannou, who in his professional boxing debut in October, shocked the world when he dropped Tyson Fury on his way to a narrow split decision loss.

‘The Gypsy King’ is the current WBC heavyweight champion, and that’s why Joshua feels he should now hold that title, as he explained in his post-fight press conference, which was captured by Boxing Social.

“Francis Ngannou beat the WBC heavyweight champion of the world, I should be WBC heavyweight champion of the world. I think he beat the WBC heavyweight champion of the world.”

While Joshua may have poked fun at Fury, he was still full of praise for Ngannou despite the knockout.

“He’s a great fighter, he’s a dreamer, a risk taker, his story shouldn’t be clouded by tonight. He’s come a long way and he’s still got a long way to go.”

Joshua is now set to potentially face the winner of the undisputed heavyweight title showdown between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, but with a rematch between the two men also planned, ‘AJ’ may choose to stay busy and face someone else in the interim.
