Bob Arum made an appearance on YouTube chat show, Barbershop Conversations, recently to discuss all things boxing, including a potential clash between Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko.
The two are both promoted by Arum and Top Rank which could ensure a deal gets done without any major obstacles.
Speaking on Barbershop Conversations, Arum said:
“Devin Haney has an obligation to fight [George] Kambosos again. We have let Devin Haney know that if Lomachenko can get out of Ukraine, he would take a tune-up fight, and then if Haney beats Kambosos, Haney would get the Lomachenko fight.”
The former three-weight world champion has recently spent time in his homeland offering help on the front line against the Russian invasion.
A handful of Ukrainian athletes, including current heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, have also given support.
The heavyweight champion recently got an exemption from the Ukrainian military so that he could leave the country and his duties in order to start camp for his title defence against Anthony Joshua later this month.
Lomachenko’s last outing was a one-sided beatdown of former IBF lightweight champion, Richard Commey back in December of last year.
Upon signing with Top Rank, Haney agreed to the fight with Kambosos Jr for the unification of his WBC belt and the Australian’s WBA, WBO and IBF titles.
Haney travelled Down Under and outclassed Kambosos to leave the Marvel Stadium, Melbourne with all four world titles.
Thanks to a rematch clause the undefeated American will have to get the win once again if he is to fulfil an ambition of fighting Vasyl Lomachenko and any other of the division’s elite fighters.
