As Teofimo Lopez prepares to make a first defence of his WBO super-lightweight title, he has had a run in at the final press conference, not with his opponent, but with one of the fighters on his undercard, Keyshawn Davis, who claims Lopez ‘disrespected him’ in a recent interview.
Speaking to YSM Sports Media during the build-up to his showdown with Jamaine Ortiz, Lopez indicated that Davis was two-faced, revealing that the 24-year-old asked him for a picture prior to calling him out for a fight.
At the Lopez-Ortiz press conference, Davis confronted the 140lb champion about his comments, kickstarting an intriguing conversation that was captured by Top Rank.

KD – “What made you mention my name in that interview? Just a question.”
TL – “You said Crawford would beat me.”
KD – “It’s just an opinion.”
TL – “I don’t like it. I hope that you respect that part. I’m not saying that Pedraza is going to beat you.”
KD – “Nah, you ain’t say that because you know that’s not going to happen.”
TL – “I don’t know. Maybe he can.”
KD – “Everybody can when you step in that ring.”
TL – “Just don’t bite the bullet.”
KD – “Ay, Teo. I’ve never disrespected you, alright? I took that as disrespect, what you said. They didn’t even mention my name, you brought it up.”
TL – “You know, a lot of times they mix my words up.”
KD – “I’ve seen the video.”
TL – “You did? Well I didn’t mean to disrespect you, brother.”
Following their engagement, the pair shook hands and labelled it as ‘Good Business’, but that show of respect didn’t remove the tension in the air, with Davis likely to pursue a fight with Lopez in the future.
First, Keyshawn Davis will take on two-division world champion, Jose Pedraza in the highlight of the undercard before Teofimo Lopez takes centre stage against Ortiz on Thursday 8th February, to get the Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas underway.
