Martin Bakole continues to hang around at the top of the heavyweight division but is, according to his trainer, struggling to get an opponent agreed.
Bakole’s most recent outing came in Saudi Arabia in October. He was up against Frenchman Carlos Takam and wasted no time in knocking him down and out within four rounds, despite coming in at a whopping 299.4 lbs.
In a total of 19 other bouts, the 30-year-old has beaten the likes of Tony Yoka, Sergey Kuzmin and Kevin Johnson and has lost just one fight back in 2018 to Martin Hunter.
Speaking to IFL TV, Bakole’s trainer Billy Nelson outlined who the Congolese man should be fighting.
“He’s now in the Top 10. He’s number two in one of the organisations. So theoretically it should be the top two in the four organisations plus any of the champions. You’ve got Usyk and Fury, and then it should be the next two in the organisations [that Martin is fighting.]
He then listed four fighters who have turned down fights with his man.
“You’ve got Frank Sanchez who beat Junior Fa, both said no to Martin, so did Miller, so did Wilder. Martin Bakole got offered four fights and we said aye to the lot of them and supposedly, apart from Wilder cause Joe was always the number one guy to fight him, the other three said no.”
Although he doesn’t have his next fight lined-up, Bakole continues to make headline for sparring stories – most recently his claims to have stopped unified champion Oleksandr Usyk in a session.
