Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez is all set to fight next on June 29 in Glendale, Arizona, for a world title at a new weight.
At just 24 years old, Rodriguez (19-0, 12 KOs) has swiftly climbed the ranks, securing a career-defining victory by unifying the flyweight titles with a ninth-round stoppage of Sunny Edwards.
Now, according to ESPN, the plan is for him to move up to challenge Juan Francisco Estrada for his WBC junior bantamweight title when Rodriguez, a unified champion at 112 pounds, aims to make his mark against the seasoned veteran.
This will be a formidable opponent in Estrada whose record sits at 44-3, 28 KOs. He is ESPN’s top-ranked junior bantamweight and is well known for his storied career and recent triumph over the great legend Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.
Estrada has got two wins over Gonzalez, though both were close and disputed by many, while their trilogy fight was one of the most action-packed in history. Estrada has also fought the fearsome Sor Rungvisai twice, losing the first time but winning the 2019 rematch.
With both fighters eyeing victory, this showdown promises to be a pivotal moment in boxing and will potentially mark the passing of the torch from one generation to the next.
