Back in March, Adam Azim and Harlem Eubank faced off in the ring at the O2 Arena to promote their fight – the caveat being that the fight was not signed. Finally, after months of silence, it appears as though the clash is set to be formally announced.
Rising super-lightweight prospect Adam Azim had been linked to a showdown with Dalton Smith for the coveted British title, as well as Azim’s European belt, after the EBU ordered the contest. However, Shalom chose to protect the youngster and instead opted for a scrap with Harlem Eubank, which was announced live on Sky Sports on the Fabio Wardley vs. Frazer Clarke Easter Sunday bill.
However, despite the announcement and face-off, it was later revealed that the fight was not officially signed, much to the amazement of ever-present boxing agent, Sam Jones, who believed that Eubank face-off was being used as a ‘smoke screen’ to divert attention from the fact that they had swerved the Dalton Smith fight.
“They need a smoke screen, a diversion, because it is a hail-mary of a duck. It really is. It’s an absolutely incredible duck from Boxxer to the Dalton Smith fight.Adam Azim, I guarantee you now, will want to fight Dalton Smith.
“Ben [Shalom] was talking about how Dalton Smith is 27 and Adam Azim is 21, Harlem Eubank is 30? All you are doing is digging the hole even deeper, you are digging yourself a bigger hole. There’s no experience there whatsoever.
“I’ll tell you what Chris Eubank Snr is going to do because the guy has been around the block and he knows how to deal with these situations. You’re telling me you [Ben Shalom] have announced the fight, you’ve got in the ring, had the face-off and the fight is not signed yet?
“If I am looking after Harlem Eubank, I’m asking for a f***ing fortune to fight Adam Azim now. Whatever you offered me, I want more, I want double, you have already announced the fight!”
Almost three months since the pair met in the ring, Ben Shalom has informed Boxing Social that Azim-Eubank is expected to be announced within the next couple of weeks, with the all-British affair likely to go ahead in August, although it is not guaranteed to be headline attraction of the card.
“Adam got injured two days after Wardley-Clarke, so we put the date back. I know that Adam is back in the gym now, I know that he is fit. I think that we are going to see that fight at the end of August, which means that it will hopefully be announced in the week or two max.
“We will see [if that is a headline fight].”
If Azim-Eubank was to take place in August, it would be Boxxer’s second event of the month, with a stadium fight already penned in for August 3rd.
