Ben Whittaker is very much in the early stages of her professional career but has now been called out by a 12-0 unbeaten fighter who claims ‘I’m the baddest man he’s faced.’
Whittaker has made plenty of headiness early on in his career. His in-ring theatrics and flamboyant style, combined with his undefeated record of 7-0, have not only stirred controversy but also garnered widespread attention, propelling him into the realm of viral sensation.
His unique blend of showmanship and undeniable talent has attracted a slew of prospective opponents eager to seize the opportunity he presents on the grand stage.
Ezra Arenyeka has seen his antics and is now keen for a fight. He burst into the spotlight in March with an unexpected appearance at a pre-fight press conference preceding Whittaker’s triumph over Leon Willings, where he issued a challenge to the Olympic silver medallist.
Now, Arenyeka has been speaking to Sky Sports’s Toe2Toe and claimed that Whittaker can try and showboat against him but he will be made to look very silly if he does.
“He’s a great Olympian, a great boxer, but I don’t think he’s a great professional, that’s the difference. This is not amateur boxing, this is not tippy-tap.
“He’s fought guys that are scared of him and have too much respect, they’re not dogs like me. It’s going to be different, it’s going to be relentless work from me.”
He then laid into Whittaker’s showboating.
“Everybody can showboat, I used to do it as an amateur but over time as a fighter you learn you become a professional and you stop doing that because it’s disrespectful to your opponent. He cannot do it against me, I promise you.
“I’m going to take him into deep waters, he doesn’t like being there, I know that for a fact. I watched his amateur fights, he likes it easy, for you to stay in front of him, he comes with a flurry and gets back in his shell.”
He then stated how he would approach the fight differently than the rest.
“But I’m a dog, a fighter, I’m going in there to knock him out, he’s going to punch me and they will bounce off me, I will keep coming, absorbing the punches. I’m the baddest man he has ever faced.”
Arenyeka has also been critical of the type of quality fighter Whittaker has been taking on given his ability so will be hoping to get his own shot to back up his talk.
