The highly anticipated debut of Ben Whittaker will now take place on July 30.
This Saturday night in Manchester had been the original plan for the 2020 Olympic Silver Medallist to make his bow but the main event between Hughie Fury and Michael Hunter was postponed when the former withdrew due to illness.
The light heavyweight, who will be coached by Tyson Fury’s trainer Sugar Hill Steward, has already made something of a name for himself such was the noise made when it was announced he had signed with promoter Ben Shalom and BOXXER.
Shalom told Sky Sports:
“He’s incredibly excited, he’ll be starting at light-heavyweight and he’ll want to move quickly as well.”
“He will now be out on July 30”
“Seeing SugarHill and Ben working together – that is something to behold for boxing fans. It’s something I know so many people are excited about.”
Whittaker’s debut will be part of the undercard of the Chris Billam-Smith vs Isaac Chamberlain fight night in Bournemouth. Whittaker spoke to Sky Sports about the announcement:
