Billy Joe Saunders has weighed in with a prediction for the recently confirmed rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Smith.
Smith sensationally stopped Eubank in the fourth round of their pay per view clash at a sold out Manchester Arena last month.
And former two weight world champion Saunders told iFL TV he is ‘100%’ certain it will be the same result again, the only question is whether the knockout will come earlier.
“Liam is a world class fighter. Look who he’s been beaten by. They’re a very clever family when it comes to boxing.”
“It’ll be the same outcome again. Eubank might make it through five, six or seven – but he’ll get stopped again, one hundred percent.”
“Because Smith knows he can hurt him and he’ll now think “you know what, I’m going to put the pressure on you,” and it might even come earlier.”
Having faced Eubank in a British title fight all the way back in 2014, Saunders is perhaps better place than most to provide an analysis on ‘Next Gen.’
There has always been bad blood between the two and talk of a rematch has been incessant, and flared up again amid rumours ‘BJS’ will look to return to the ring later this year.
However, Saunders played down talk of a rematch with Eubank Jr and instead claimed he is looking towards the likes of Liam Smith and Demetrius Andrade.
The slick southpaw has been out of action since his stoppage loss to Canelo Alvarez back in 2021, during which he suffered a broken orbital bone.
Widely regarded as one of the most talented British fighters of his generation, there is still widespread interest as to who Saunders will face and just how much of a force he can still be.
