Dmitry Bivol Provides Big Update On Fighting For Undisputed

Dmitry Bivol is in the hunt for an undisputed fight and has received news that means he might be getting close to making that happen.

Bivol is the WBA light heavyweight champion since a win over Trent Broadhurst in 2017. Most notably he has seen off the challenge of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez last year and has since also beaten Gilberto Ramirez in another defence.

Next up he is facing Brit Lyndon Arthur on the huge Day of Reckoning card in Saudi Arabia this weekend, but what he really wants is a fight with unified champion Artur Beterbiev for a chance to become undisputed.

Back in May that seemed unlikely as he was told by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman he was not eligible to fight for the WBC title because of ongoing sanctions for Russian and Belarusian fighters.

Speaking to Boxing Social, he has now given a positive update following a fresh conversation with Sulaiman.

“We saw Mauricio Sulaiman and were talking with him and we see the way to make it happen. Mauricio told us how to make it happen. And now I don’t see it’s a big problem to make this fight.

“We see the way and will use this way of course, but first of all, I need to win my fight and then when we start discussions about undisputed we will use our chance to fight for the WBC belt too.”

Beterbiev has a fight lined up against Callum Smith in January so should both men come through with wins, fans may well get a the undisputed contest in the Spring of 2024.
