BKFC heavyweight Leonard Perdomo, described as the bare knuckle Mike Tyson, opposes boxing‘s increasing reliance on exhibition shows — particularly his idol Tyson’s prospective match with fellow all-time-great Floyd Mayweather.
“I don’t have nothing to say, because Mike Tyson is already older and to get in the ring — even for the money — it doesn’t make sense for him,” Perdomo, 30, told Boxing Social ahead of his co-feature bout against Orlando Coulter at the upcoming BKFC 87 card — headlined by Kai Stewart and Nico Gaffie — in Hollywood, Florida.
Perdomo has drawn comparisons to Tyson because of the balance he has shown varying his defense and attack, which culminated with nine first-round knockout wins on the spin, and then a 10th finish in the third round late, last year.
A Cuban sensation, Perdomo is tipped to go all the way to the top of his fighting discipline, recently signed a new fight-fight contract, and Boxing Social understands part of that deal will see him challenge the former UFC heavyweight Andrei Arlovski for the BKFC championship, providing he keeps on winning.
But despite the penchant for power punching, in a similar vein to Tyson, he is against his idol continuing to fight at 59 years old.
During his prime, Tyson destroyed fighters like Trevor Berbick, Larry Holmes, and Michael Spinks, before sharing the ring with Donovan Ruddock, Evander Holyfield, and Lennox Lewis, too. Following back-to-back losses in 2004 to 2005, Tyson did not fight until a 2020 exhibition against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr for a relatively fun COVID-era exhibition, fought Jake Paul for real in an eight-rounder, and is linked with an exhibition with Mayweather.
“The Jake Paul event was bull-s*** for me.”
Perdomo continued: “I’m a real fighter, I want to fight. And I don’t believe these are real fights. They’re so-called fake fights,” he said, referencing the exhibition nature of the shows, rather than anything scripted in sanctioned bouts.
“In real fights you could risk your life. I don’t support otherwise.”
