Chantelle Cameron spoiled Katie Taylor’s homecoming in Dublin and retained her super lightweight undisputed title with a majority decision win.
It was an enthralling back and forth encounter from the first bell with no let up, but it was mostly Cameron forcing the action and landing the more meaningful shots throughout the contest.
In her post fight interview Taylor made it clear she wants to run it back.
Here’s what some of the boxing world made of it all.
Claressa Shields
Katie won this fight to me! If y’all want to say a split or majority for Katie! But let’s see! Cameron did good but didn’t dethrone the champ. @DAZNBoxing

I do believe that is the correct decision. Taylor was out worked, and out landed. Chantelle Cameron showed up, punched in, and went to work all night, and sometimes that’s all it takes

What a fight. What an atmosphere. The right person won. I had it for Cameron. Taylor dug deep but Cameron fought beautifully. Big, strong, fast, unphased. What a performance from the champ. Very curious to see what Taylor does next. pic.twitter.com/3AafgavxZq

Cameron won that fight with pressure, but it was thoughtful work, she pushed forward but used a solid jab to maintain the distance to let her pushes go freely. She also threw back every time Taylor unloaded a days combo.

What an incredible performance from Chantelle. She’s won this fight clear as day. Katie a living legend but she’s been well beaten here 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Thought Chantelle just won and scorecards was bang on. Didn’t have it nothing like a lot of my timeline. Didn’t get the biased commentary shout either to be fair as thought they was rewarding both girls. Massive respect to Katie for taking the toughest challenges as always.

Jake Paul
Bravo to both women. Cameron went into Ireland and pulled it off. Taylor stepped up against the best in the world in a heavier weight class and almost had it. Both are winners. #TaylorCameron

‼️ Chantelle Cameron BEATS Katie Taylor by majority decision to retain her undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF & WBO super-lightweight world titles. Magnificent performance from Cameron and a career-defining win as Taylor loses for the first time. What a fight.

Cameron a clear winner for me. She's a very good fighter and made size count. Taylor took on a challenge there that many people wouldn't have, that's who she is. The whole thing was really good for boxing 👏
