Frazer Clarke has joined some of his fellow British heavyweights in claiming that Daniel Dubois has a good puncher’s chance in his upcoming world title fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
The fight will be Usyk’s second defence of the WBO, IBF and WBA world titles he won from, and then defended against, Anthony Joshua. It takes place in Wroclaw, Poland, on August 26 and will be by far the biggest fight of 25-year-old Dubois’ career.
So far he has come up short only once when an eye injury forced him to take a 10 count in his all British match-up with Joe Joyce back in 2020.
‘Dynamite’ Dubois has knocked out 18 of his other 19 opponents, with one 10-round points win over the durable and experienced American Kevin Johnson in October 2018.
Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Clarke – himself a 7 and 0 heavyweight contender with wins over the likes of Mariusz Wach and Bogdan Dinu – gave his views on the fight.
“He has the punch power. He has the punch power. It only takes one shot. Skills, he and Usyk are in different stratospheres, but it’s a fight, let’s strip it all back, it’s two men in a ring punching each other. If he catches him right, Daniel can put him sleep.”
Dubois will enter the ring guided by new trainer Don Charles, and the pair believe they can pull of a huge heavyweight upset in Poland.
If Usyk wins as the bookmakers expect him to, he’s keen to re-enter discussions with the division’s other champion, Tyson Fury, for an undisputed bout.
