# Caleb Plant And David Benavidez Confirm Agreement To Fight

Caleb Plant is set to challenge David Benavidez for his WBC super-middleweight interim title, with terms agreed for a fight in early 2023.

Talks for the fight seemed to have been straightforward, despite Benavidez being rumoured to be fighting Jose Uzcategui until a few days ago. A fight between the two was prviously called off due to Uzcategui testing positive for the performance-enhancing EPO.

Although not formally announced, it’s believed those involved were attempting to reschedule, however criticisms from fans who believed the fight to be a mismatch, as well as not wanting to give another chance to someone who has tested positive, have seemingly led to Benavidez taking an alternate route.

Most consider a fight with ‘Sweet Hands’ Plant far more entertaining, and will likely be one of the Mexican’s toughest fights to date. A win for Plant would mean he takes Benavidez’ place as the mandatory challenger and gets the chance to fight ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for the undisputed title for the second time – attempting to avenge his only career defeat.

Plant announced the news that the two 168lbers would face off via [Twitter](https://twitter.com/SweetHandsPlant/status/1588279180281532417), claiming to be the catalyst for the bout.

With 23 knockouts in his 26 wins, many will perceive Benavidez as the puncher vs the technician in Caleb Plant, however a recent stunning knockout win against Anthony Dirrell showed the latter has power too.

There is sure to be fireworks in what could be the biggest super-middleweight fight of 2023, as champion [‘Canelo’ is sidelined until he recovers from recent surgery on his left wrist.](https://wp.boxing-social.com/news/de-la-hoya-on-canelos-mexican-comment/)
