Welsh boxing legend and former 2-weight world champion, Joe Calzaghe (46-0) has spoken exclusively to Sky Sports and has delivered his opinion on the upcoming Joshua vs Takam world heavyweight title fight which will take place in his home country’s national stadium at the Principality Stadium; a venue that Calzaghe will be familiar with given that he earned two victories there. Calzaghe also took the opportunity to size up Joshua purely from a fighting standpoint.
Calzaghe says he thoroughly expects Joshua to come through Saturday night’s bout with his undefeated record intact. Calzaghe says what he saw from Joshua in April against Klitschko is pivotal.”The acid test was Klitschko, he went down in that fight and he showed he has a champion’s heart by coming back and winning that fight,” Calzaghe told Sky Sports News.
Calzaghe did, however, suggest Joshua needs to be focused and avoid any slip-ups especially when altering your tactics to fight somebody you didn’t prepare for “Takam is a late substitute so he (Joshua) has to adapt to a different opponent than Pulev, who he was due to fight,” added Calzaghe.
Calzaghe is confident though despite only being given 12 days notice that his opponent on October 28th will be Carlos Takam is not enough to give the Frenchman a legitimate charge. “It’s going to be a different style but I think he’ll take it in his stride. I’m sure he can adapt to any style.” Calzaghe shared when delivering his interpretation of how he thinks the fight will play out.
“He is the champion of the world and I’m sure he’ll enjoy this stadium and walking out to a tremendous crowd.” Calzaghe added, on a final note when discussing Joshua fighting at the Principality Stadium.
