After weeks of speculation it seems as though Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is on the verge of officially announcing his next fight with Jaime Munguia and now the purse has been revealed.
‘Canelo’ has been involved in quite the saga this year as he attempted to lock in his next opponent for his traditional Cinco De Mayo fight date.
He was in a broadcast deal with PBC, who were happy for him to fight young Mexican world title hopeful Munguia on the condition that he also fought David Benavidez later in the year.
Benavidez then announced that he was moving up to light heavyweight having grown tired of waiting and now it seems that the fight with Munguia is most likely for undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo.
A new message posted on X by respected boxing journalist Dan Rafael seems to confirm this and suggests that it will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on both Amazon Prime and DAZN, along with a predicated purse for the fight.
“News: Per source with direct knowledge of the deal, @Canelo vs. @jaimemunguia15 is being finalized. Not signed yet but no issues. May 4, T-Mobile Arena on Prime Video PPV & DAZN PPV. A 1-fight deal that will pay Canelo “north of $35M.” Told Golden Boy is not involved. #boxing”
