After news broke of his latest fight on Tuesday, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has now revealed how long he has left in the sport of boxing.
For years, the Cinco de Mayo weekend fight has been synonymous with multi-weight champion Alvarez and speculation ran rampant regarding the Mexican superstar’s ring adversary this time around.
After names like Terence Crawford, David Benavidez, and Jaime Munguia were all in the mix, an announcement on Azteca TV appears to confirm the rumours that it will be Jermall Charlo that is up next to face the current undisputed super middleweight champion.
Jermall seeks redemption for his twin brother Jermell Charlo’s September defeat to Canelo, setting the stage for a compelling showdown this May 4th weekend.
Speaking to Azteca TV, Canelo has now been looking ahead to the final stages of his career. He has fought 60 time since turning pro age 15, has lost just twice and has knocked out 39 of his opponents.
Now he has revealed, as translated and reported by Fight Hub Marcos on X, that he wants to carry on for another five years.
He is signed on to TV Azteca for one more year to show his fights for free in Mexico despite the networks in his home country wanting to make them pay-per-view shows, to which Canelo said no in a great showing of support for his hardcore home fans.
For as long as he is here, boxing fans should continue to enjoy the remarkable career of one of the all-time greats.
