Mexican star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez says that campmate Ryan Garcia demonstrated his courage by climbing off the canvas to knock out Luke Campbell in Dallas on the weekend.
Alvarez was ringside as Garcia, after being dropped in the 2nd round, recovered and halted 2012 Olympic gold medallist Campbell with a heavy left hook to the body in the seventh session.
“Ryan Garcia showed that he has balls,” Canelo said to Little Giant Boxing. “That is one of the most important things in boxing. This fight is going to serve him well. Luke Campbell is a good fighter. This fight is going to serve him more than all the ones he has fought.
“The key was to be patient, to be calm, but he sped things up. This fight will serve as an experience for him. In the end, fights like this are the ones that give you the experience to go forward to even bigger fights and everything like this will serve him well.”
