A long-awaited deal for an undisputed super-middleweight title fight between WBC, WBA Super and WBO king Canelo Alvarez and IBF title holder Caleb Plant is nearing fruition for November.
The duo have been locked in negotiations for some time, but the fight seemed dead in the water when a planned September 18 date fell through at the final hurdle late last month, just as both fighters were due to sign contracts.
Pound-for-pound No.1 Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) then turned his attentions to potential clashes with light-heavyweight champions Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev before his next appearance was bumped back to November, when the Plant option was revived.
According to Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com, Canelo-Plant is now almost a done deal. The Mexican superstar is on the brink of signing with Al Haymon’s PBC in a one-fight agreement that would see him face Nashville’s Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) on Fox Pay-Per-View in the US.
